Giving Back to the Community

Illinois State Dental Society’s “Mission of Mercy”

Each year Dr. Jensen, Dr. Hawkins and the team at Oral and Facial Surgery Center give back to the community through community dental outreach programs. This past year our team joined with the Illinois State Dental Society’s “Mission of Mercy” in providing the opportunity for people to have a day of free dental work done. Our team, Dr. Jensen and Dr. Hawkins, along with other local state dental teams donated both their time and experience two days of free dental work on July 22 – 23, 2022 at the UW Sports Factory in Rockford, IL.
Patients had to be at least 18 years of age and could choose from three procedures:

  • Tooth Extractions
  • Tooth Fillings
  • Teeth Cleaning

The mission surpassed its goal of providing $1 million in free dental care to more than 1,000 patients during the two day event.  The final total of care provided was $1,024,736.96.  Hundreds of volunteers – dentists, dental hygienists, registered nurses, dental assistants and patient ambassadors – provided 366 cleanings, 1,159 extractions, 916 fillings, 610 X-rays, 58 root canals and 54 partials.

The event was well received from the Community, especially at a time where many have no dental insurance. Dr. Jensen, Dr. Hawkins and our team will always be a part of donating their time and experience to help those who are less fortunate.

Dr. Kurt F. Jensen and Mrs. Sue Jensen recently traveled to Montego Bay, Jamaica on a mission trip along with other volunteers with the Kids Around The World organization to build two playgrounds at a local orphanage. Dr. and Mrs. Jensen travel annually donating their time and labor to build playgrounds around the world for the Kids Around The World organization. Dr. and Mrs. Jensen would like to thank everyone that donated their time and commitment on this endeavor. Dr. Jensen said that the most rewarding part of this experience is seeing how appreciative the children are during the building of these playgrounds and how excited they are to play on them because they have never had a playground before.
